Helly Handsome

Congealed mucus green and vicious, frozen eyes grey and vacuous.

A beautiful mind disintegrates; a stagnant, mangled, reprobate.

Can after can clouds the memory of wasted youthful brilliance,

Till blind, deaf, dumb, numb - bin all residual sentience.

Night after night he lays a bed of blood, sweat and vomit,

No room for you, my cheerless chum, under mankind’s benevolent blanket.

Bones brittle, limbs weak; mute observer of the street.

Swollen hands, dishevelled feet; marching to a different beat.

Empty expression hides piercing perception,

Seeming impotence but rabid resilience.

The ceaseless strive to stay alive - taxed by this hopeless struggle,

Whilst the one-track minds that hasten by scorn this lifeless obstacle.

Almost a lifetime spent on vacation - no ties, no burdens, no grinding vocation:

‘Get a job you lazy simpleton - you’re competent, coherent and Caucasian’.

No human compassion, no churchly confession,

A traitor exiled; no hope, salvation!

Soul cripples under deep depression,

Distress, Despair, Dismay, Dejection.

Hopelessly seized by looming addiction,

Reality yields to demonic delusion.

Now starved, sick and spiritless, he joins at last the ranks of deceased.

Devoured as meat through the ravenous teeth of Paris, The Moveable Feast.
